Father Morgan established a scholarship fund in 1998 to benefit one senior student from each of the high schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville. While in the seminary, Father Morgan was awarded an unrestricted scholarship that he could use at his discretion. He never forgot how important these monies were to his studies. He established the Father John H. Morgan Scholarship to encourage worthy students pursuing higher education. The first scholarships were awarded in 2000 and the winners were recognized at the annual Salute to Catholic School Alumni Dinner.
The Father John H. Morgan Scholarship provides a minimum scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a high school senior who has selected a course of study in college leading to a profession in law, medicine, religion, science, or education. This scholarship is intended to help a serious student pursue his or her profession of choice. Although this scholarship is not intended to be a need-based scholarship, students with limited financial resources should be considered.
The Father John H. Morgan Scholarship applications are mailed directly to each of the nine high schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville in early October. The scholarship selection committee will select one student from each high school to receive the Father John H. Morgan Scholarship. Winners will be notified in December. Winners are invited to be recognized at the Catholic Education Foundation Salute to Catholic School Alumni Dinner that is held each year in March.
High School seniors are encouraged to see their guidance counselor or principal for scholarship applications.
