Roll Forming Corporation has a handle on Material Handling Requirements
Producing complex parts in a single, in-line process improves quality and reduces cost
The Industry
Historically, the material handling industry has been comprised of traditional methods of basic pallet rack systems and manned forklifts to store and retrieve goods. As labor costs and building costs have increased dramatically over the last decade, the industry has evolved into the development of automated systems that reduce material handling labor requirements and increase storage density.
The Challenge and Solution
As the material handling industry has transitioned into Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), the need arose for long length steel profiles that could be formed to precise tolerances. Many of these profiles also contain detailed hole patterns and end configurations. Necessary for labor optimizing equipment such as mobile robotic picking systems and automatic guided vehicles, these profiles would traditionally require multiple steps to produce.
Our capabilities of advanced roll forming proved the perfect solution for this combination of profile requirements. We have worked with a diverse set of material handling clients to meet their needs for these complex systems. In one instance, we were able to work with a client and reduce part production costs by over 35%. This clients particular part was originally designed as a fabricated component, requiring 2 different parts to be welded together then taken to a 3rd operation for punching holes. We were able to use our core technology of roll forming and produce this part in a single process. This solution not only drastically improved the overall quality of the part, but also resulted in significant cost savings.
In addition to manufacturing parts more efficiently and effectively, it is our desire to add value to the parts our clients bring us. By understanding where these profiles fit into the operation, we can suggest specific features in order to create even more cost benefit for our clients. Our personalized approach to the design of these profiles and our capabilities of advanced roll forming lead to higher quality parts that are more cost effective.
