Reverend Bernard J. Breen, Pastor

Fr. B.J. was named after his grandfather-Bernard John Rectenwald and they called him "B.J.". He is the middle child of five, one older brother and sister and one younger brother and sister. His home parish was St. John Parish and he attended public grade schools: McKinley and Lincoln. He went to St. Rita for 3rd-5th grade, John Filson for 6th grade and then on to Southern High School for 7th-9th grade. Fr. B.J. finished high school at St. Thomas Seminary in Louisville and then Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati, OH for the last two years of college and four years of theology.

He was ordained to priesthood in May 1972. Fr. B.J. served as a deacon for one year at St. John Vianney parish. His first priest assignment was SS. Peter and Paul parish in Danville, KY, from 1972-1977. He was Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, while also working at the Chancery in the Office of Planning. From 1983-94, Fr. worked full time at the Chancery as Vice Chancellor, Chancellor and Vicar General while living at Holy Trinity parish. In 1994 he became pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish while still serving as Vicar General. Fr. B.J. came to St. Leonard in June of 2008 where he is the current pastor of the clustered parishes of Saint Leonard and Saint Frances of Rome. On May 27, 2016, he celebrated his 44th Anniversary of Priesthood.
