Field Trips

Past field trips have included trips to Art Sparks at the Speed Art Museum, pumpkin picking at the Gallrein Farm in Shelbyville, KY, Brown Park, Stage One, Derby Dinner Playhouse productions and WLKY television studios – we like to participate in as many educational trips as possible.

Parental Participation

We encourage and welcome parents in the classroom. We want you to know what your child is doing and to see your child in action. We also have special events to share with your children: “Ma Spa" or "Muffins with Mom”, "March Dadness" or “Doughnuts with Dad” and a Parent Grandparent lunch. Weekly newsletters keep parents informed about upcoming projects and opportunities for involvement. We also maintain a private class page to share photos and fun activities!

Serving the Community

It's never too early to begin! Our Pre-Kindergarten class annually participates in the Scholastic Pajama Program (service project). Pajamas and books are located to a local agency in the metropolitan area. Previous recipients include Home of the Innocents and Volunteers of America.

Snacks/Lunch

Each child is provided with a nutritious snack every morning – this helps to maintain energy levels. Children who stay for “Lunch Bunch” also have the option to buy a hot lunch from the school cafeteria – monthly menus are available – or they can bring a lunch from home. Special Areas Each week, all preschool students make daily visits to the gym or the playground (depending upon the weather) for recess; music, physical education with Coach Gunn, computer lab and the library visits are once a week. The Pre-Kindergarten class will also have bi-weekly visits with our Spanish Instructor.

Cultural Events

St. Leonard School regularly invites groups or individuals to perform or to tell about their organizations. Past events have included puppet shows and stories by the Louisville Free-Public Library, musical groups (such as the Wulfe Brothers), the Louisville Zoo and educational demonstrations from the Louisville Water Company and from Mad Science.

Curriculum

Whether your child is 3 years old or 4 years old, our Preschool / Pre-Kindergarten programs encourage education through a variety of stimulating experiences that enhance children’s growth and development. Our approach to early childhood education allows each child to grow at the appropriate rate: Socially, emotionally and physically. “Academics” will be based upon age and maturity to assure that all students are challenged daily. We provide a secure and loving setting that allows children to “test the water” without fear. Our classroom is always busy – unstructured, but organized; free, but controlled.
